No, I don’t know why I wrote it either.

Perspective

When I mess something up, generally only a few people know about it.
When Barack Obama messes up the oath of office, pretty much the entire civilized world sees it on live TV.
So in the big picture, I guess my goofs aren’t really all that important. And hopefully any further mistakes from either of us will be just as inconsequential and just as quickly forgotten.

Further Randomness

As any good geologist will tell you, sometimes schist just happens.

I’ve been sick recently (I think my misadventure on New Year’s Eve may have come back to haunt me), so I made a conscious effort to get to bed at a semi-reasonable time. It’s nearly 5:00 AM and I’m still awake.
This bites.

Do you suppose Jeff Foxworthy is smarter than a fifth grader?
If you asked him, he’d probably immediately respond “No.” Then he’d come up with some reasons why he isn’t. He could probably then turn around and write a bestselling book of ways you can tell whether you’re not as smart as a fifth grader.
Then again, Bill Engvall has this pretty well covered already.

Back in 2006, I wrote about the events leading up to the proto-story Murder, She Caused. (I say “proto-story” because although there are a few paragraphs of dialogue, most of it’s just a summary of the idea for a story.)
One of the missing pieces of the story behind the story (would that be a meta-story?) is just how bizarre the conversation was that led to the idea of Mulder and Scully investigating Jessica Fletcher.
I have no idea how it progressed to a dead FBI agent (who eventually evolved into Fox Mulder), but the original conversation involved Kzinti roaming Cabot Cove. Come to think of it, I have no idea how or why the conversation started with the Kzinti; the need for an FBI investigation in Cabot Cove would be the more logical starting point. But no, the conversation started with Kzinti and ended with the FBI.
As I said, it was a bizarre conversation.

Because New Year’s Day was on a Thursday, lots of people took Friday off as well. My office was fairly empty on Friday; probably less than 20 of us on the entire floor. Likewise, there was pretty minimal traffic. (More than on Wednesday, but still, I managed to get to the office by 8:30.)
Monday’s gonna suck.

It’s now close to 6:00 AM (It took a while to find that video, you should watch it.) I’m still not sleepy. Perhaps I’ve had too much sleep the past few weeks?
This is why I part of why I don’t go to bed at what most folks would consider a normal hour.

One of the categories for this post is “Pointless Posts.” This may very well be the most definitively pointless post not only on my site, but on the entire Internet.

Is It Over Yet?

I’m getting ready for bed a little later than I should. Very late considering that I was up around 6:20 AM so I could stop to vote on my to work.
It occurs to me though, I don’t know who won the election.
I’ve been pretty deliberately taking it easy this evening. Reading a book, watching a movie, and just generally avoiding any sort of media outlet. After all the political ads the past few weeks, and all the pundits punditing, I’m very happy to take a break from it.
I’ll hear the election results in the car on the way to work tomorrow. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy the silence. There’s only six weeks or so left until they start the next round of campaigns.

Have Paint Brush, No Time to Travel

After about three weeks of prep work and two days of washing walls and emptying closets, I’ve officially started painting. There’s blue tape everywhere!!!! (Look for photos in a week or so.) This evening I got two-thirds of the living room painted. With luck those walls will dry before any dogs or parrots make contact with them.
The floors are scheduled to be installed later this week and I already have this unfortunate mental image of Wylie sliding across the living room and putting his head through the drywall…

Spacing Out

My house has about 900 square feet of floor space. (And an undoubtedly similar amount of ceiling.)
The living room, dining room and upstairs hallway have about 880 square feet of wall space.
Likewise, the three bedrooms have a combined wall space of approximately 896 square feet.
By comparison, the kitchen has a relatively paltry 168 square feet of wall space (not counting the space occupied by cabinetry).
This gives me a combined total of nearly 2000 square feet of wall space versus only 900 of floor space.
Those of you who use numerology for things such as predicting baseball playoffs may find some significance to these numbers. For myself, what’s clear is that even though they’re all approximations, if I could somehow figure out a way to walk on the walls, I’d have a lot more room to move around.

Literary Meme

You should blame Marauder for this.

  1. Grab the nearest book.
  2. Open the book to page 23.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal…along with these instructions.

To access any of the framework’s features, you need to know which namespace contains the types that expose the facilities you’re after.

(Who the heck keeps great literature – or even a comic book – near the computer?)

Random Thoughts

One of the risks of going for a walk in an unfamiliar neighborhood is that other people don’t realize that it’s unfamiliar.  It might be unfamiliar to them though, and then they’ll stop and ask you for directions.
That happened to me today.  Amazingly, I not only knew the location of the Holiday Inn, I also knew that it was now a Crowne Plaza.

Yesterday was February 29.  Assuming I ever get married, February 29 would be a good day for the wedding.  That way I’d only have to remember the anniverssary one year out of every four, and all the “Leap Day” press would work as a reminder.
April 1 would be another good day, though it would also be a good day for a proposal. Any girl lacking the sense of humor to appreciate that date probably wouldn’t want to be involved with me anyhow.

To Sleep, Perchance to Dream

I went to a party at a friend’s house last night.  It was a good social time, far from boring, with plenty of other friends there.  But despite having fun, I was feeling worn out and somehow fell asleep on the couch.  When I woke up, it was already morning and from a quick look out the window, I guessed it was already 8:00 or 9:00.
Then the alarm went off and I woke up again.  It was a little after 6:00 am.
So apparently I’ve started having dreams about getting more sleep.  Perhaps I need to start going to bed earlier?
