Party Girls Gone Wild

I don’t generally follow (or even care about) what’s going on with the celebrity crowd. People I actually know, such as AJ, Squish, John or even Z, are far more important to me. (That being said, would someone please give Jennifer Aniston my phone number?) Despite this lack of interest on my part, sometimes the celebrity news is hard to avoid.
Take for instance the recent case of Lindsay Lohan. She was arrested for DUI over Memorial Day weekend and checked into rehab. Two weeks after getting out of rehab, she was pulled over again. This time along with DUI, she was also charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of cocaine.
In California, a second offense so close to the first means automatic jail time, so despite a police video tape showing her jumping out of the driver’s door and attempting to flee the scene, her lawyers have taken the tack of claiming that it wasn’t her driving.
Silly policeman. It must have been Paris Hilton.

  1. Yes, even my arch-nemesis is important to me. Speaking of which, congratulations on your recent promotion. (Did anyone mention that the position pays 10% more than nemesis?)

  2. Maybe she was the passenger in a British car? Depending upon how clear the video is — that could be a creative tack for her lawyer. Note: I haven’t seen the video, or read anything about this news story.
I’ve learned how to avoid the celebrity news. I get all my news from Google, and only click on the news stories that interest me.
The only problem is I’m not sure who the President of the United States is currently. I lost interest in that question a few years ago.

  3. My 15 mile commute frequently takes close to an hour. That means I spend an awful lot of time listening to radio. Otherwise, I’d have probably managed to avoid this story too. (Unfortunately, web surfing and reading the paper don’t work when you’re driving.) Considering how closely this follows the Paris Hilton affair, it seems that Ms. Lohan has been a good deal more successful at missing the celebrity news.
This was one of those things where I was listening to the story and more than half expecting the morning air personality to make the Paris Hilton joke.

  4. “You like me, you really, really like me!”
Wonder if she’ll get jail time like Paris.

  5. As I understand it, the letter of the law says she gets jail time. A judge will decide the details if she’s found guilty (see above regarding her lawyers’ take on it.)
My take on it is that her celebrity status shouldn’t get her any special treatment. That works both ways: No “Get out of jail free” card, but also no unusually harsh punishment either. (She evidently does have a thick skull however, so the punishment probably does need to be harsh enough to sink in.)
